Basil, a miniature mohair bear

This little vintage-style art teddy bear is an original one of a kind modflowers design, hand made from a pale golden mohair fur fabric. He is modelled on vintage bears, with a rounded head, chunky little legs, a small nose and tiny brown glass eyes.

Basil always likes to wear his best bib and tucker for Christmas. He sports a charcoal-coloured boiled wool waistcoat with metal buttons and an amber velour cravat at his neck . His nose and claws are hand embroidered with vintage thread and he has fuzzy linen paw pads on the soles of his feet.

His legs, arms and head are cotter pin jointed so they may be moved gently to make him sit or stand (with support) and turn his head. He will not stand up to rough handling. He is stuffed with reclaimed polyester cushion filling and weighted with tiny steel pellets.

A bear's love is special and unwavering. This particular bear is small enough to keep you company anywhere and looks wonderful as an ornament sitting on a bookshelf or mantelpiece, or installed as a trusty desk companion.

Basil measures 11 cm (approximately 4.25 inches) from the top of his head to the soles of his feet.
